SubtitleMatrix

Privacy

The short version: your subtitle files are not sent anywhere, because there is nowhere for them to go.

What this page covers

This page describes what actually happens when you use SubtitleMatrix, including the parts that are not under this site's control. It is written against the behaviour of the code, not against an intention.

There is no account system, no sign-in, no newsletter and no contact form, so there is no profile to describe and nothing to delete on request.

Your subtitle files

When you open, paste or drop a subtitle file into a tool, it is read by the JavaScript running in that page and held in the browser's memory for as long as the page is open. The conversion happens there, and the file you download is produced there as well. A video dropped on the media pages is treated the same way: it is read by a local build of ffmpeg running in the tab, and the subtitle tracks are written out in the tab.

No subtitle file or video, and no part of one, is transmitted to this site or to anyone else. This is not a policy choice that could be reversed without you noticing: the tools have no server-side component, so there is no request that could carry your file. Closing the tab discards it. The media pages do download their engines before the first run — from a few megabytes of OCR plus one language model up to about 100 MB for speech transcription or narration — but those requests carry nothing of yours.

What is stored on your device

Local storage holds one thing: your light or dark theme preference, kept so the page does not flash the wrong colours on the next visit. It contains no identifier and is not sent anywhere.

Your language choice is kept in a cookie so the site can send you to the right language version next time. It also contains no identifier. There are no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels and no fingerprinting scripts on this site. The media pages also keep the engines they download in the browser's cache, so a second visit does not fetch them again; those are this site's own files, not anything of yours.

What the hosting provider sees

The site is served as static files by a hosting provider, and that provider handles the network request that delivers the page. Like any hosting provider, it may keep access logs — typically the IP address, the requested path, the referring page and the user agent — under its own policy rather than this one.

This site's own code has no access to those logs and does not receive, store or forward anything from them. Nothing in the application reads a visitor's IP address or location. If you want to know what the provider retains and for how long, its own documentation is the authoritative source, and it can change independently of anything written here.

Third parties

There is no analytics service, no advertising network, no tag manager, no session recording and no error-reporting SDK on this site. No page loads a script from a third-party domain.

Fonts are served from this site rather than from a font CDN, so opening a page does not make a request to a third party that could see your IP address. The only external requests a page makes are for its own files.

What you can control

There is no consent banner to dismiss, because there is nothing to consent to. You can clear the stored theme preference and language cookie at any time by clearing site data for this domain in your browser, and you can avoid both by using a private window.

Changes to this page

This page may change without notice. If a feature is ever added that sends data anywhere, this page will say so, and the version published at the time you use the site is the version that applies.
